In Oct I signed up a 18 month deal with O2.

I have been off work for 4 month with a back condition and I was hoping that my doctor would tell me that I was ok to return, but today he signed me off for another 6 months due to the strong medication that I am on.

Is there any way I can cancel the contract.

the only way you can cancel contract will be to pay the remaining 16 months payments so you may as well stay with them.

Of course if you explain to them the situation theres a very slim chance they may allow you to cancel although as its O2 i very much doubt it.
how strange that your doctor can look six months into the future and predict your pain will be the same/your medication will be the same! out of interest, what do you do for a living, because if you wanted to go back, and felt able to you may be able to do smething else. Otherwise, even strong medications like morphine dont prevent people from driving or operating machinery if you are on a stable dose
I use to sell mobile contracts and unfort. once you sign thats it really your stuck,

if you wanted to end your contract you would have to pay the rest of the line rental for the contract, but I do know of case where the custome and the network have come to an agreement to settle the contract at a discount.

another thing you could do is wait until your on the 6h month then reduce your tarriff to the lowest tarriff which is around 15

hope this helps
