rent increase

my rent has gone up from �445-00 to � 520-00 a rise of 17% is this within the law i think not but can you help, note i have not had a rent increase for 8 years

If it is a tenancy where a rent has been registered as a "fair rent" with the rent officer then any new rent also has to have the rent officer's agreement.
