No. Accepting volunteers would interfere with the random selection of jurors.
I suppose if it were up for volunteers, you would get a far larger amount of cranks and people with ulterior motives signing up!!
I agree with Ethel, it must be totally random.

Even Police Officers, judges?? can now be called which shows the extreme that the Criminal Justice System has gone to in ensuring a random selection for jury service.

Anyone had experiance of this?

I know of three police officers that have been called. None actually sat on juries because of objections raised about impartiality.
I wont say how old I am am but I have been wating for my random call for a long time!
I was called once - turned up for court every day but never got picked (was a nice holiday which my company paid for!).

My wife got picked and served on a jury many years ago.
I served on a jury in the eightees, 3 guys robbed a jeweller in Torquay, they got sent down!!
I was called for this and enjoyed it, but it was upsetting.
