My sister got made redundent 2day on the spot with out any warnings, her boss's reasons 4 this was financial problems and he could not afford to pay her wages, she worked in a little high street lighting shop part time 3days aweek, and she has worked for him 5yrs.
Her boss first said his advisor told him to close shop so she needed to go, then in his next breath he said he was going to work in the shop 4days a week to see how it goes, he paid her a weeks money 4 the inconveniance.
Is this a legal way of dismissal from the workplace? or does my sister have a case to take to a tribuneral?

She is entitled to redundancy money at the very least. Read here for info.
As well as redundancy she is entitled to pay in lieu of notice. This is one week for each complete year of service, so if she has been there for 5 complete years she is still owed 4 weeks, as he gave her 1 week. Also, if she has not had her holiday entitlement this holiday year she might be entitled to some accrued holiday pay.

Suggest she contact ACAS helpline or goes to local CAB.

She will need to raise a grievance about it with the ex-employer & then go to an Employment Tribunal. CAB has booklets explaining this. There is a 3 month time limit for going to the Tribunal.
