I posted a poser earlier about a bale of hay being a requirement by law for a cabbie.which got me thinking are there any other unusual laws that are still current in the british isles?

Under the Licensing Act of 1872 it is illegal to be drunk in charge of a cow - �200 fine or jail for 51 weeks.

This law hasn't been repealed and is still on the statute books.

Have at look at the Town Police Clauses act 1847, particulary section 28. Quite a lot in there, some still used, some which have fallen into disuse.

You can commit some public order offences in in private.

There is no law about carrying a bale of hay in a taxi. It was only a byelaw in London and was repealed decades ago. Kept alive only by some drivers to get bigger tips from tourists for the novelty value.
