I have recently bought a house which the previous owner did a lot of work too. It now appears the work was sub standard and not entirely safe. My solicitor advised the vendor to take out building indemnity insurance. Have I any recourse to have the work rectified?

Did you have a survey done? If not I would think that the house was sold as seen
if he took out the insurance, then surely you have
I hope its not the bloke next to me. since they moved in 3 years ago I dont think there has been a full week where he hasnt hammered something - walls, floors, paving, decking - all done himself with the intention of making a big profit he says. I dont want to sound agist but he is 75 years old - how well can he plaster a ceiling? Aargh he's banging again now. He knocked the chimney breast out last year while we were on holiday. when we came home my ornaments had been bounced off the mantle.
didnt this come up on a survey? didnt your solicitor make sure he had buildings control?
The building indemnity policy is normally put in place because of not having applied for Building Control approval, Bednobs.
