Does anyone know what the likely fine and penalty points would be for someone caught doing 59 in a 30 mph zone would be?

Also it has to go to court so would there be any benefit in having a solicitor to represent you or should he just fill in the form as 'guilty'?

There were some 'mitigating circumstances' such as unfamiliar road, speed changed from 60 to 30 with a few hundred yards, was at 1.30 in the morning, no other cars on the road therefore no other traffic to indicate slowing down. I realise that these factors do not change the fact just wondered if they would be taken into consideration.

Thank you

Mitigating circumstances wont wash lol best thing to do is plead guilty and save the expense
As you've got a court date i would imagine that you may get 4/5 points instead of 3. Norman will know lol
Magistrates guidelines for 21-30mph in excess of a 20-30mph zone are a Category B fine and either 6 points or a disqualification of up to 56 days.

A category B fine represents 1 weeks take home wages

Although it's noted that the list is not exhaustive the only example of a mitigating circumstance quoted is an emergency

Thank you muchly Rev, I told mrwarpug the mitigating circumstances would not work but then he rarely listens to me!

4/5 points would be ok even with a fine, I was more worried that he might lose his licence making it difficult to get to work, then we would be well and truely up sh1t creek!

Will see what Norman says if he comes along.

Thanks you

Thanks JTP, that clarifies it. The fine we could cover and the penalty points too. Not so the 56 days disqualification.

Fingers crossed and thank you for your help.

6 points even.

If offered a ban of a couple of months it may be worth doing that, as with 6 points for one offence his insurance will rocket.

Whenever ive been done for speeding I just say yes sir no sir I'm really very sorry and accept the punishment lol

Only problem with that is he will be unable to get to work which equals no money. As for the insurance, well we were used to paying ridiculously high insurance when we were in Northern Ireland so even if it trebled it probably still wouldn't cost any more that it did over there.

I don't drive so I cant even help out by dropping him to work.
Thats the anwer then lol let us know how he gets on
Question Author
Cheers Rev, its not until the 27th so will get him to fill in the 'guilty' forms today and let you know.

Thanks
