why is it in law that spectators are not allowed to go onto a designated playing are at a football match?

Like any law, if there wasn't a law to prohibit it, idiots would do it.

Most people would agree that they go to a football match to watch a game of football, not to see an exhibitionist or drunken fool.

Why? It would make the game of football very difficult to play if all the spectators were on the pitch!
