I was involved in a confrontation on the M8 motorway going into Edinburgh and I asked the police to check the CCTV coverage for the day in question but they claim that they don't have access to them, and that the cameras do not record the images from the motorway. Can anybody tell me whether this is true as I thought they recorded the images, especially when you see polce camera action etc. but the police claim the cameras on the M8 are not the same. Does anybody know who I should contact to find out whether the police are lying about them recording the images.
Maybe they are speed cameras. Are they on gantries above the motorway or on buildings next to the motorway? If they are on buildings they may be owned by the owners / management of the building so you could approach them.
Perhaps theyre just telling you, in a round about way, that its not worth the bother? Was your 'confrontation' a major incident i.e. was someone attacked, murdered etc? Or was it simply a road traffic accident or argument?
I was taken to court and I wanted the CCTV coverage to prove my innocence. The CCTV cameras are along the side of the motorway and I asumed that they were for the police to see what was going on. I have watched programmes on the T.V, where it shows motorists driving recklessly, I realise that some of the clips are taken from inside the pursuing police vehicle but others are from CCTV coverage of the motorway. If the polce are telling the truth then I can only assume that the cameras on English motorways are different to the ones on Scotland's roads
