How long in advance should I be told of change in working hours? Is 24 hours long enough notice?

TIA

It very much depends on the nature of your job.

Hiya Ethel. I posted this question for a friend. She works in a well know bed shop. She was told today at work that as from tomorrow she will be expected to work half an hour more for no extra pay, as she is salaried.
So she is expected to work an additional 2 and a half or three hours per week without pay.

I would need to see her contract of employment - how many hours does she currently work?
Question Author
I know she works 40 hours a week. I'll get her to check her contract.
Question Author
If she works 9.30 am - 6.30 pm, what breaks is she legally entitled to?
It doesn't sound right, but there could be a simple explanation such as paid lunchtimes that should only be half an hour but have been an hour.
