if someone steals my post for the purpose of ID theft, do they need documents to be intact?

I save post that I feel may need shredding, but sometimes can't be bothered. is it enough to tear up a document, paying special attention to the name and address panel?

isn't tearing it up enough? I would be more careful with bank details but if it's just a letter from the gas board... would an ID thief present it someone sellotaped together?

Just find a quiet corner behind a sofa or similar, and leave the shredder there, plugged in.

Shred as you go. Don't even bother to put the papers down, just feed the shredder.

Alternatively if there are any young kids in your family they love shredding. Give em a quid and they'll shred everything and come back for more.

thanks Fitboy - I tried that but my son stuffed up the shredder so the docs just came through with dented lines on them!!
