No, not if the debt remains unpaid, you can't
Not unless the contract says you can.

Usually you are expected to be guarantor for the length of the contract.
Surely if it was a simple case of 'pulling out' of being a guarantor after 'x' amount of time it would render the whole system useless. You guarantee the payment of the whole debt or cost - never agree to being a guarantor if you don't think you trust the person you are standing guarantee for or you think that there is a risk that their situation might change and you will end up footing the bill!
