debt recovery agencies

theoretical question,

not to sure if this post should be in law or finance but here is my question.

if a debt collection agency contacts you by telephone and you ask them to delete all of your contact numbers and only contact you by post are they legally obliged to do so or can they refuse to delete your contact numbers and continue to contact you by telephone until you have cleared your debt.

any ideas?
