we are about to buy a house we live in council house at the moment the council have told us that we have to give 4 weeks notice before we can go into our new house.is that true or can we give the keys back befor the 4 weeks are up.

you can give your keys in early but you will be charged rent for any weeks left.
agree with above ... lok on the brightside, if you have both places for a bit, at least you dont have to move everything on one day!
Yes, that is the point. You are on four weeks' notice of termination of the agreement to rent it. You can do what you like earlier provided you pay the four weeks' rent.
Or you could just delay completion on your purchase until nearer the end of the 4 weeks.
