Cutting a long story short, I owe 120 final balance on a 3 phone bill. My financial situation changed in September so I paid up (so I thought) my account and closed it. Anyway I owe this money still and have offered to pay back 10 which is currently all I can really afford. I have done this both on the phone and by 2 letters, none of which they have replied to. Now I have got a debt collectors letter, I again phoned them and asked to pay in the 10 monthly payments and they have said no, the amount is not enough a month. They want more or they will issue a default thing against my credit rating.
I have wrote to them again stressing all I can afford is the 10, recorded delivery.
Can they do this??? I hoped as long as I was paying a half reasonable amount I would be ok.
Go to the CAB if you can, or try here - not actually used it but I pulled it off a BBC page, and I would therefore expect it to be genuine advice, not one of these debt management jobs. http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/
