how can you find the name of a person that lived in a particular house many years ago I AM TRYING TO FIND SOMEONE BUT I CANNOT REMEMBER THE NAME AND NO ONE IN THE OLD STREET CAN RECALL THEM

The lists are in alphabetical order of streets, so it would only take a few moments to find the street listing and look to see who's listed against the relevant house number.

Some (possibly most) record offices will provide the type of information you require over the phone. Others might insist that you call in person. If so, take your passport and/or driving licence, together with some documents to prove your address. (Record offices hold some very valuable historical documents, so they take precautions to check the identity of people using their facilities. Don't let these formalities put you off though; the staff are always helpful and it's easy to search their records).
