My bank has been charging me 38.00 per transaction they reject, thats direct debits, chqs, standing orders etc... this they say is in their standard terms and conditions which I dont disagree with however the costs I do as to reject my payments its just a computer saying no. This is also worse as I have spoken to them on numerous occasions to advise extra money will be put in place to resolve this current cash flow issuesgoing over my overdraft. i still get hit up to 114.00 per day even if the money goes in the following. is this wrong and how can I claim at least some back.
You may be able to claim back excessive bank charges. However, since July 2007, the banks have been exempted from having to act upon such claims, pending a court ruling as to whether the Office of Fair Trading has the right to intervene in the relationship between banks and their customers, with regard to bank charges. (The High Court made a 'Stage 1' decision last Wednesday, but a 'Stage 2' decision is still awaited). The exemption has just been extended (today) until 26/07/09. So you can't get anything back at the moment, but you can still register your claim.
I assume they are refusing to extend your overdraft, which they are quite within their rights to do.
I suggest you cancel your direct debits, standing orders and stop writing cheques and find a different way of managing your money. This will avoid incurring more charges.
Many thanks will look into that. No overdraft is maxed out because of change in circumstance but was only temp now back on course. they were hitting me every rejection even though they knew funds were imminent.
