Do the hand wringers on this site believe that these workers are racist, or are they beginning to realise that in times like this UK workers should be the first in line for jobs?

At least they are European and will return home after the contract and put less stress on our services. There are 1/2 million jobs available in the job centres. Don't the British like working at Asda or Tescos?
Well done tony
Then we can vote in the BNP kick out the foreigners and annex the rest of Europe - because we "need room to breathe" dont we?
Seriously I love the way that all these Patriots go on about British people.
They actually can't stand "British people"
What they mean is British people who are like them and think like they do - you know "right thinking people"
Not the Liberals and the Chavs and all the other scum that they're forever wining about on here or in the letters pages.
Frankly I don't think they'll be happy until the country is entirely populated with little clones of themselves.
You can almost *feel* the fear and loathing of anything or anyone different.

This is a non-story the job was put out to tender and the Italian firm won, end of.
Non story eh! you begger belief, perhaps you think that this story should not have been reported? It is not only the Daily Mail that have released this news, it is all over the national media.
Maybe the Italian firm won the tender, but the jobs created should have gone to British workers, end of.
If in an unlikely scenario a British firm had been as successful in winning a tender abroad, are you naive enough into thinking that any jobs created would have gone to British workers.
The photo of these foreign workers giving their response says it all. Talk about rubbing salt into the wound.

I have just watched Sky news, and seen the scenes of protest over this.
There are socialist waving their flags in protest and at one stage they interviewed a chap who admitted he was a Communist and even he was protesting over this matter.
Witnessing this I was wondering what politics the likes of jake-the-peg & 123everton followed, or are they just dim?

Total is a french company. If we are playing the patriotism card, Total should close this factory and only employ french workers in France to do the same job.
British Industry has to be competitive. The British public should not have to subsidise inefficient companies. If they cannot win competitive tenders then they go out of business.
If you are saying that this company which aims to make money should award a contract not to the cheapest bidder, but a more expensive British one, then your patriotism is misplaced.
It will be you and me that will have to pay the difference in more expensive prices.
This is only the same as 'British' ships like The Queen Mary II being built abroad because it is too expensive to build them here. What about those 'British' jobs lost? Yet the Daily Mail will run adverts for these cruiseline businesses that have stolen British jobs, and many a DM reader will not think twice about booking a cruise on one.
Subsidising inefficient companies out of patriotism really is a very bad idea.

Gromit do you really understand what this is all about?
It is not the fact that a foreign company has set up home in the UK, it is the fact that the jobs created have gone to foreign workers.
Would it be alright for the Japanese car firms in the UK to only employ Japanese workers also ?
Please try and keep up Gromit.

I just cannot believe this statement laid out in a recent post by 123everton
I'm a dyed in the wool trade unionist.
If this is true he is a disgrace to the Trade Union Movement, especially when he comes out with words such s this.
we all applaud and say well done.
Business is business.
Business is business eh! regardless of the workers?

Yes it would. A company can employ whoever it wants to. If the Japanese workers were willing to work cheaper, then the company would be quite within their rights to employ them.
Not a desirable situation, but it is how businesses work.
Will you be willing to pay 4 times as much for your vegetables so that British crop pickers can be employed instead of cheaper eastern European ones?

Just who is missing the point here ? Britain is a member of a united Europe and as such members of this community are entitled to live and work in which ever country they choose within this community. There are therefore no foreign workers anymore only European workers . This is a fact of life . How many voters questioned their prospective members of parliament on this subject at election time ? Who's quotation was " a country gets the government it deserves " ??
