Hello, I have a conviction for GBH - i didnt go t prison however i did get a suspended sentence and community service. I have recently found out my friend is looking to get married in the US and of course I am more than aware of the difficulties faced, by someone in my position, when trying to go to America. I know it isn't impossible so can anyone shed any light on ways I can enahnce my chances of getting in?? Thanks.
I don't fancy your chances, sorry! In the past or if it wasn't a violent crime I would have said keep quiet to the offence they won't find out but now things are more complicated and if they do find out you will be deported.
the americans don't take kindly to people with violent convictions or drug related offences. If you really want to go to the wedding then you will have to attempt to apply for a visa but it will be expensive and I doubt they will give you one.
thank you for your advice. dzug - i was convicted of GBH without intent as I was defending myself from being attacked. I pleaded guilty early on as i could not risk a trial and potentially coming off much worse if found guilty after a trial. When you say 'lie' do you mean lie about the punishment i received or lie about the offence and my intentions/lack of intention? I have no issues with bending the truth if it gets me in.
