Help Sky Contract
any of you clever people out there know of anyway to get out of a 12 month standard sky contract? My friend is being made redundant and as she hasn't worked for them long enough she is not entitled to any pay out. At the moment she has no work so will be claiming benefits but she wants to cut back as much as poss,
The problem is she only took it out about 5 months ago!

I suppose they might offer it in the short term in case she gets another job quickly and then wants to keep Sky on.

I honestly fail to see how on earth the CAB could insist Sky took a "stop" on a 12 month contract. They may have been more reasonable once the CAB were involved but ultimately, if Sky want to enforce the situation they could do. That said, it comes back to the old "you can't get blood from a stone" point. Better to cancel the contract when the customer says they can't pay for it than to continue to supply and then spend a fortune on legal bills trying to make them pay anyway.
Write to them explaining the situation and say there is no way she can afford to carry on the contract , and so as not to incur bank charges if they take a direct debit with nsufficant funds to cover it, she will have no alternative to but to inform the bank that the direct debit is cancelled, stop using it make sure she disconnects the system and inform Sky it is at her property waiting for them to collect it.
