any of you clever people out there know of anyway to get out of a 12 month standard sky contract? My friend is being made redundant and as she hasn't worked for them long enough she is not entitled to any pay out. At the moment she has no work so will be claiming benefits but she wants to cut back as much as poss,

The problem is she only took it out about 5 months ago!

dont know if she will get out of the contract but if she phones and explains whats going on they will probably do a "deal" with her
I'd be surprised if they did offer much of a "deal". They offer deals to people who are threatening to cancel sometimes but in this case all it would mean would be deferral of the cancellation if she can't afford it anyway.

I suppose they might offer it in the short term in case she gets another job quickly and then wants to keep Sky on.
hello

this happened to my friend she called sky and they did not care! was told so its not our problem.

but she spoke to C A B and she was told that she could ask for a stop untill she gets a job then once she could pay again start viewing sky and paying again
hope this helps
I honestly fail to see how on earth the CAB could insist Sky took a "stop" on a 12 month contract. They may have been more reasonable once the CAB were involved but ultimately, if Sky want to enforce the situation they could do. That said, it comes back to the old "you can't get blood from a stone" point. Better to cancel the contract when the customer says they can't pay for it than to continue to supply and then spend a fortune on legal bills trying to make them pay anyway.

she's rung them and the response has been 'write in with your request'
SKYLINE...did i say the C AB insist Sky took a "stop" on a 12 month contract. NO she spoke to them and they told her it may be away to go!
and i have spoken to my friend and they did do it for her she wrote to them and thats waht they did 3 months later she got a job and she carried on paying

You certainly implied it as I read it but no matter.

I really don't see what relevance the CAB have on this one. They can't tell you anything that you can't ask Sky yourself. At the end of the day it's at their discretion.
Write to them explaining the situation and say there is no way she can afford to carry on the contract , and so as not to incur bank charges if they take a direct debit with nsufficant funds to cover it, she will have no alternative to but to inform the bank that the direct debit is cancelled, stop using it make sure she disconnects the system and inform Sky it is at her property waiting for them to collect it.
