I have booked my holiday from work some weeks ago now. i go away on friday .Last week i asked if i can have my pay double like i have done in the past. Today i have been told that because its the end of the financial year this week i cannot have double this time. They say its the end of the budget year. Can they do this?

i dont understand why you would get double pay? Are you talking about getting paid your holiday pay a week in advance? if so, it's very likely they can do this, as most peoples cntract means they get paid in arrears
Is your double pay a holiday premium, like exists in some industries, as very often holidy pay builds up at a rate higher than 1.? If so it is probably part of your contractual terms, by means of a union agreement , or industry terms. You really need to check you contract of employment, or your terms and conditions of employment handbook. If it is in those, then they should pay you and end of the financial year is neither here not there.
I'm pretty sure bunblebee is just talking about advance holiday pay. Quite a few years ago I worked for a company that allowed you to ask to be paid one or two week's pay in advance if you were going on holiday. But I think it's less common now, particularly as fewer peopel are paid weekly. I can't see their is any obligatio to pay it.
