Parking ticket

I stopped to help an elderly man who had collapsed on the pavement, I pulled over and parked my car and ran back to help and received a parking ticket when I returned some 5- 10 mins later, can I challenge this parking ticket.

I would hope so. Kind of sums up the state of the nation if not. Worth going to the papers though, if not. They love this sort of thing.

i would definately challenge it.

i had to challenge a ticket once but you have to do it before you pay. if you pay then you cant challenge it.

I am sad to say this,but you WILL need some sort of proof of the collapse to challenge the ticket.
As ummmm says,was an ambulance called.
Were you the only person attending the collapsed man?
The tribunal assessing the appeal may say that if there were others attending the man that you should have parked properly and THEN helped.
I don't say this myself,I am only pointing out what they may say.
I think the most important thing is PROOF of the collapse of the man.If you cannot provide concrete evidence your appeal may fail.
Parking Appeal Tribunals have "heard it all before" and will be very cynical and disbelieving,so just be prepared, or you could be in for a shock.

I left the ambulance service recently after 15 years front line emergency work and now employed as a nurse so I am used to dealing with this sort of problem, I dont think about the consequences of stopping to help someone it is a natural response as in most people, I parked my car in a car space off the main road to allow traffic to pass, I assesed the situation and recommended hospital treatment but the old guy wanted to go shopping for his wife and get home so he refused an ambulance, I gave him a lift to the supermarket and again wished him well and left. No one else stopped.

I parked my car less than 20 feet from the old guy, the parking ticket was stuck down the space between the bonnet and windscreen with the wiper blades on top of it so I could not see it, I found the ticket some hours later.

I had no idea I had been given a ticket at the time, also the parking attendant watched me dealing with the old man?

I see where your coming from dan but I,am not joking, I,ve even been to the supermarket in question to see if I can find the old guy, I,ve asked the staff there if they knew him in case he,s a regular customer, he,s an easily reconisable bloke with an old red leather bag, I would have thought someone might remember him, he cant live far from the scene.
