Can anyone tell me how long do you normally have to wait for a will to go through probate, my mother died last September and we are still waiting for her will to be read.

For the will to be read? I thought that only happened in Agatha Christie novels.
Once it has been submitted to probate it shouldn't take more than a month or two to be processed. Have you asked the executor when it was submitted?

Yes it's my sister actually, but she's not the sort to keep in touch with the Solicitor. Don't know if it will make any difference if I get in touch with them. Seven months seems a long time, it should be a straightfoward result between four of us.
MY Uncle died in nov 2008 , left a will. all done and dusted by feb 2009 , did it myself by completing the forms from the probate office and attending a brief interview.
If the property's worth is less than £250k the executors can take it to their local Courthouse, sign some papers & confirmation from Probate office received soon after - or instantly from the Court.
I'm not sure what you mean by "waiting for the will to be read".
