I PAID £1000 TO A CONTRACTOR TO HAVE A NEW FRONT DOOR. I WAS ASKED TO MAKE THE CHEQUE OUT TO THE DOOR MANUFACTURER. THE CHEQUE HAS BEEN DEBITED TO MY ACCOUNT, AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS TOLD ME THE DOOR HAS BEEN COLLECTED BY MY CONTRACTER. HE TELLS ME THE DOOR WAS NOT DELIVERED AND IS STILL WAITING FOR IT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A MONTH , AND I AM SITTING WRITING TO YOU WITH NO NEW FRONT DOOR, AND £1000 OUT OF POCKET.

You have paid the contractor for the door.

So ... the "consideration" from you has, legally, gone to the benefit of the contractor.
Focus on the contractor.
