Ebay Dispute

I'm currently in dispute over an Ebay item.  I paid over �200 by cheque over a month ago for a computer part which I have not received.  The seller has come up with all sorts of excuses as to why she hasn't been able to post the item, but now it's gone beyond a joke.  I have opened a dispute via Ebay - but notice that if it goes as far as me making a claim through Ebay - I will only receive a small percentage of the total money paid.  Is this the kind of case I could take directly against the seller, and either report her to the police or take the action to a Small Claims Court - and if so how would I go about it?  Any help gratefully received.

Name and shame this person. That way we can all avoid them in the future. Also post negative feedback.

In my experience Ebay are worse than useless in helping to sort out disputes. They basically email the offender asking them to act and if they don't then thats it!!

i had a similar thing years back but luckily i didnt part with any cash.i won the item but the price was extremely low so the seller was obviously extremely reluctant to release the item.

i brought this to the auction site's attention and all they did was give me his phone no.

if u ask me,they take a fee for the 'lot' so should have some responsibility

Thanks to all for comments, suggestions and advice.  Really helpful.  I should have been suspicious at the start as this seller would not accept Paypal - which was why I sent a cheque.  I'm not going to let this rest - it's far too much money to just wave goodbye to.  Will be claiming through ebay - looks like I can get up to �120 back through them and will also pursue a Small Claims Court claim for the rest. Thanks again.

Just an update on this for anyone who's interested.  Opened a dispute via ebay and also informed the seller that I would pursue Small Claims Court action against her to get my money back.  As if by magic the graphics card arrived this morning - beautifully packaged, in full working order and accompanied by a couple of PC games and a note of apology!  Amazing what a little bit of pressure can do!  Thanks to all for the advice - will certainly bear it in mind and never pay for anything so expensive on ebay via cheque again!
