Please can someone point me in the right direction to take this matter higher.

I am under the care of a Professor in London and his secretary is absolutely useless. Every time I either see the professor or have a follow-up conversation on the phone he sends myself and my Dr a follow-up letter. Each and every time I have to chase her up and she has this awful attitude about her that is just not professional at all.

On this occasion I have waited 2 weeks for a follow-up letter from the Professor and I had to cancel my appointment with my Dr last Monday as the letter hadn't turned up. Today, I chased-up to find out if the letter has been sent and I get the usual bad attitude, only this time she quickly muttered "well i've been signed off sick for 7 weeks" before huffing and puffing and asking for my hospital number. She then says it's not been done yet and it will go to your Dr......... then it gets all heated as her attitude starts to really stink when I said i've had to cancel my Dr's appointment and I've waited for 2 weeks for this letter.. she goes off on one which then gets my back up and we end up have a shouting match on the phone. I can't beleive it!!!!!!! I am always so calm on the phone with people!

I would like to take this matter further as quite frankly she cannot be allowed to talk to me in such a bad attitude way when she is supposed to be there to help me. My stomach is in real knots now and I am shaking with shock. Please can someone let me know how I can take this matter further..

Thank you

i would think that the first port of call is to the professor that has been seeing you.

Hi Red,

Thanks for your response, I did that last time but he skimmed over the problem as if nothing was wrong, hence why I wish to take this further now.
well you dont say if this is NHS or private but if NHS i would contact the PALS service at the hospital http://www.pals.nhs.u...tView.aspx?Itemid=944

the general Medical Council?
this seems outrageous that a person in this position would resort to a slanging match
so does The GMC not have any power over someone who practises privately?

This professor does Private and NHS... I am under the NHS at St Barts Hospital in London.

I will try The link you have mentioned here Red... and the medical council... Bobbisox I am still shaking, I am so upset. I have to collect my daughter from Primary school now, the walk should calm me!

Thanks for your help everyone :)
i would certainly take PALS as the next step
sorry to hear this Lisa, take care x

Thank you :) x
Lisa I suggest the following: You write to the proffesor, stating that you have raised this point before, there has been no change in attitude and what it is costing you in time and worry. Point out that you are really happy with the care you have recieved and you have no complaint about the proffessor. Then state that you would hope that it all cane resolved amicably but if it can't you reserve the right to complain to the health ombudsman.

The significant part is the onbudsman all the rest is fluff. I guarantee you a written apology.
Bobbi....GMC is for registered DOCTORS only.

Medical Secretary in the NHS, the Consultant may have little power over......in some cases the Consultant is given the secretary he needs, not necessarily the one he wants.

Complain to Hospital Management.

he/ she practise on the NHS sqad
Eddie

<<<<<This is almost certainly a private medical practice<<<<

Why do you make this statement?
Disgusting. She should be shot.
-- answer removed --
Eddie....quite the opposite professors are academics on the whole and very few if any, in private practice.

In fact, although I am not 100% sure, but if you are made a professor, then you are not allowed to do Private Practice.

Bobbi......working for the NHS has nothing to do with the GMC unless you are medically qualified.
