the silent harol lloyd movies appear to show him doing some death defying stunts on skyscrapers- how where they done -they look very real- remarkable considering the age of the movies

Well, the most famous one of him hanging from the hand of a clock on a tall building (from the film Safety Last), was done by building a set of the clock on the flat roof of a tall building and then shooting from a high angle (About 40 degrees from horizontal),so that the camera is looking down onto the street below. In reality he was about 5 feet off the ground. You can see the sort of angle in this picture of the stunt.

Forgot to mention that his stunts are all the more amazing when you consider that he was missing the thumb & forefinger from his right hand which he disguised by wearing a glove.

he lost his fingers doing a stunt - a bomb blew them off. (Not a dangerous stunt as such: it was meant to be a fake bomb but wasn't.)
