Is it true - are they edible?

Whilst eating my dinner last night a thought wandered across my tiny little brain.

"Why do people consider green beans to be a 'food' and actually think that they are edible. The are like Calamari in that they are made of some industrial by-product and are totally inedible.

I had to sit and pick out these beans from my Wiltshire Farm Foods ready meal - the other veggies were nice and tasty, but not the green intruders.

How could people possibly enjoy eating them?

don't know where you buy your green beans, but the ones i buy are lovely, don't cook them until the life drains out of you and them, as to calamari, goes well with lemon and garlic, otherwise they are a bit tasteless.
ready meals, perhaps that's the problem..
That is the reason I would never eat ready meals, the food has had the life processed out of it. Try real food, green beans are lovely!!
buy fresh, don't kill them, and you will be rewarded with a delicious good for you vegetable.
I like both green beans and calamari.

Have you tried cooking them yourself?
We grow green beans - am try to work out why you think they are made of some industrial by-product!? Sorry ready meal vegetables don't appeal.

I love Calamari!!
so do i, goes well with some nice prawns, and other delectable shellfish.
Vegetables are a fast food surely. Why wouldn't you cook them yourself Wolf? a few minutes to prepare - if that and just a few minutes to cook for most types of veg.
we are growing runner beans in our small garden, freshly picked and cooked within an hour and aknob of butter just before serving are out of this world. My favourite is broad beans [ usually frozen ones] covered in parsley sauce and topped with chopped crispy bacon.
Faster than most microwave meals.
I have come across plently of so called foodstuffs that I became aware were not fit for consumption, but I have to say I have never thought green beans to be any worse than any other veg. Maybe you are getting poor quality stringy beans ?
I love green beans, definitely buy some fresh and cook them yourslf, they won't taste anything like what you're experiencing in a ready meal. Calamari when cooked properly is lovely.
Wolf63 maybe green beans don't reheat too well? That might account for their likeness to calamari. Green beans cooked fresh are delightful.
I like fresh green beans.
Can't beat freshly picked and cooked vegetables.
I don't think green beans reheat particularly well.
Green beans, onion and green pepper, cokked for a few minutes in olive oil, then softened further in a little water and balsamic vinegar, before finally stirring in some cheese. Sounds weird, but yummy beyond belief.
Aaaargh. Why do I always type cokked instead of cooked? Is it some kind of freudian slip? No need to answer that, thanks
LOL ^^^^

I appear to be outnumbered. I get my meals delivered and the veggies are usually perfect - good quality all round. But I just can't enjoy the green beans.

I will just have to keep picking them out. :-)
Give them to the cats, Wolf lol.
