What, very disappointing ending! I anticipated something rather more interesting .

I agree. Was waiting for the twist and it never came.
Me too. I thought Martin Clunes would take the trainers to the police, and when the policewoman suggested testing the cigarette end for DNA, I really thought it was going to lead back to his son. What a twist that would have been - to unwittingly dob in his own son! Maybe I should have written it. ;o)
Lol...

I was thinking something has got to happen so then I thought he was going to stab his mum.
Haaa! Me too Ummmm. I really thought it couldn't be that simple - but it was.
no twists, I was hoping that McCann bloke did it.
any ideas of the location, it looked like north norfolk to me.

Does anyone know if it was taken from a book?
Something I don't understand....the girl said 'Sorry' as she lay dying. Sorry for what? Not having sex with him? If so, is she really likely to apologise for not having sex with him, after he's just stabbed her? :o/
That is exactly what went through my mind. But on thinking about didn't she say sorry as she fell before she was stabbed. I can't remember properly.
Dunno Lottie, don't think you actually saw the stabbing (or at least I can't remember seeing it).

I think she said it just seconds before she died though, and it just doesn't add up to me.
I don't remember her saying sorry at all ..... in fact I don't remember seeing her before the body was found - but if she was stabbed because she didn't give out - maybe she was sorry.
I think I going to now look on ITV player!!

You are right, she was stabbed before she fell but there were footsteps behind her so he was following her, perhaps she expected to be stabbed again. It was very misleading.
I watched the accused on the BBC. It was a brilliant story.
Shall watch it on I player Jeza. Those Jimmy McGovern plays are amazing.
I think they could've come up with a better ending. Disappointing, IMO.
