Can't remember what it was called, but two strangers meet who are identical and one engineers things so that they swap lives - can anyone tell me what happened in the end please?

Thanks for the name at least, couldn't even remember that! (and I did actually enjoy it). At least I can google it now to find out.
it had a good review, and has Matthew Rhys in one of the roles. I would like to do catch up?
I quite enjoyed it as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed it too.
I read the book when it was first published in the 1950s & enjoyed it. Last night's programme, I thought, was excellent. I think there were a few alterations to the original story but I'll have to read the book again to check.

I didn't realise it was on for so long and was saving the last bit but it has been deleted (probably by me!). Will have to get a laptop out tomorrow and watch the ending.
Sorry, sherrardk, you wanted to know what happened in the end. Johnny Spence returned & tried to kill his wife (after he saw her in bed with John Standing) with an overdose of Lady Spence's drugs.

John Standing followed him to the factory, they had a fight, and John killed Johnny Spence and pushed his body into one of the furnaces. Although he had done so much good within the Spence family, John had decided to leave the house to return to his former life. However, Lady Spence's companion/nurse persuaded him to stay so he did. She and the little girl were the only two who realised that he was not Johnny Spence.

Thank you dsj, I know that I will forget to look on a laptop tomorrow and by the time I do remember I will have forgotten the bit I did watch.
