Having invested so much time in watching the first four episodes, I forced myself to watch this final instalment, though my brain was screaming at me to turn this rubbish off. It was some of the worst drama I have ever been unfortunate enough to sit through. I couldn't believe this had ever been given the green light - what hold does Poliakoff have over the BBC that he is so indulged by them? The poor actors looked stranded and embarrassed, and as for the 'escape' of the band by train to Dover, it was laughable. John Goodman must have been wondering what on earth he had signed up for. I'd love to know how much it all cost......my nomination for Turkey of the Year.
not just me then, i couldn't get my head around what it was supposed to be about, murder mystery, swing and jazz, prejudice, racism in Britain, and realised it was a total load of cods, did watch the last episode just to see it out i suppose, but haven't seen something this bad since i don't know when.
Another thought: much play was made of the fact that Louis Lester was British, and had a British passport (unlike the manager of the band, who was threatened with deportation). But where in Britain was he brought up, where did he go to school, who were his parents that he had such a plummy accent and could afford such smart clothes? None of the characters was remotely believable; none had any kind of convincing back story, so we didn't care ( or at least I didn't) what happened to them. Utter tosh !
I also struggled through watching this drama, and like brainiac having watched the first episodes, just had to see the final bit - wrong decision - as you say load of rubbish.
Actually the Daily Telegraph critic, unlike some the others, slated it - although she must have been as bored as I was for writing about "first class tickets to Felixstowe" when it should have been tickets to FOLKESTONE
Agreed, a complete waste of talent....yes em10 really bad

I really enjoyed it even though it was a bit slow at times. As for the last episode I found it quite disappointing. Still undecided who killed Jesse I first thought the brother who shot himself he was really disturbed but then at the very end I started to think it was the guy with the glasses having his photo taken by the lady with the camera he became very uneasy. Strange ending!! But my final decision is the brother did it!!
I struggled with it half-heartedly as it just never seemed to get going and fizzled out like a damp squib.
After all the hype, quality of cast etc I was expecting a lot more from a Poliakoff drama.
Some great locations and sets too never gave this the launch it should have had and died on the launchpad for me.

i believe the young brother killed jesse, you saw how he behaved with the other singer, that Masterson covered it up, that Harry the bloke from the hotel was the one that Louis saw at the end of the corridor, to give the young bloke cover, what a waste of time. the music was awful, i love swing music, jazz, but this was tosh. As to Louis was there ever a stranger character, and if it hadn't been so promoted i doubt would have looked in.
