It is a fair size, but these days the esplanade is more closed in that it used to be. Way back in my young days, it was wooden boards on scaffolding that we sat on, and the exit at the east end of the esplanade (where the bands come down at the end) didn't have that sort of tunnel thing, and now there are proper seats to sit on too! Would recommend it as an experience, though I haven't been able to persuade Queenie to come and see it at least once - we'd need to be able to guarantee that it wouldn't rain!
Yes we went a few years ago with two grandchildren - there were a few regiments back from Afghanistan and they marched in desert camouflage - very moving as the boys' dad was in Afghan at the time. When we walked up to the castle the crowd was do dense that Grandad Grump had to lift the little one up - he was only about 3 - and he was so frightened in the crush. The whole experience was amazing - although the tiered seating was quite an experience Yes The old black bear gets me every time. What about those motorcyclists
It is not altogether unknown that I often play the Black Bear in the car as we cross the border back into Scotland whenever we venture south. I do like to let everyone know I'm home!
Lol ChillDoubt, you wouldn't think a chanter could do much damage. Hi granny when we went there were soldiers from Afghanistan as well. The crush to get out is quite scary. I'm thinking of booking for next year for all the family to go. I think the Grandkids would love it.
They definitely would Mazie, my brother and I did. I remember back to when it was broadcast live on a Saturday night as well, we were allowed to stay up late just to watch it (in black and white too)
I'm going to work on Queenie I want to go again, it's been long time for me
