Hello, after cancelling our Sky Subscription we need to get a freeview or freesat box. I would like to be able to record and rewind etc and get On Demand

Can anyone tell me the difference between the two services and which might be the best? We would like HD channels if poss

we've got Freeview and BT Sport (we have a BT landline). You can do all those things, HD channels included. No experience of Freesat.
Freeview is a service jointly owned by BBC and ITV and comes to you via your tv aeriel.Freesat is independant and requires a satalite dish to receive it (one off cost,no subscription). Both offer HD channels and devises for recording.Freesat has many more channels, I haven't counted them (lol) but there must be 20 shopping and 10 religion and 15 news and so it goes.
I had Freesat but overall IMO Freeview is better as it's easier to access.

Thanks for your answers. I think ill still be able to get the free channels using my sky box but I'll really miss sky+ so will look at freeview recording boxes. Thanks
Not sure what you will miss about Sky+ that Freeview doesn't offer. Most digital recorders do much the same job, for a fraction of the cost. I have TalkTalk and their MyView box and service offers recording, pausing and rewinding, and also provides access to catchup and on demand services through the programme guide. It may be the same as the one from BT. It was provided free, and my bills actually went down when I took it. I think they do this in the hope that you will buy premium services such as on demand, but there is no obligation.
The dish you have for Sky will be necessary to get FreeSat so actually no extra cost for that anyway
