So JM has lost his sacking appeal.

I am amazed that anyone would think that an ageism case would work, given the way the changes in Channel 4 Racing were brought about.

If he had tacked his dismissal (apparently it was seen as such by the tribunal) - on the basis that he was never advised that his on-screen persona was proving unpopular, and that he was given no warning of his lack of a future, he may well have had a case - the tribunal acknowledged both those points.

But to suggest that he was dismissed because of his age was born to fail - so didn't anyone think to tell him he would not win?

Didn't he conduct his own defence, so perhaps took no advice? It was his behaviour that got him the sack by the sound of it, not his age.
Prob did but would John listen thats another matter
He misread his tick tack man who told him he was flogging a dead horse,so,he did'nt win that gamble. Not much of a tipster after all!!!
Probably no one cared......
If he acted for himself, it may well be that he'd had legal advice but refused to take it ! It was better played on grounds of unfairness in giving no warning or advice as to behaviour, rather than ageism. His age was irrelevant; he looks and acts the same in his role as "the John McCrirrick", as he always has.
I remember when he was on Wife Swap - I felt sorry for his wife, the mysognotically-named Booby.
erm, that should be mysogonistcally.....
If he was sacked on the day he became 60 or 65 he might have had a point, but since he had a contract well into his seventies then it was hardly due to his age.
is that a real word Boxy or did you invent it?
There's a real word in there somewhere!!
yep - with the addition of an i - ically it is pronounceable. I hated him on Wife Swap. Love is blind, that's for sure.
the man is an ar$ehole of the highest order. perhaps at one time his employers found that endearing, but there's only so long that behavior like that will endure.
I read in todays paper that he had a 'no win no fee' arrangement with the Employment Law specialist firm Cavendish Legal Group but he is having to pay the costs of his QC, another Employment Law specialist - Jenny Eady.

In that case, Mick, the poor leader was defeated by the client! She had to say that nothing had changed, but his manner giving evidence put the tribunal's back up, and the other side could bolster their case in that he'd shown, from more recent behaviour, that he was mysogynist and sexist, which is a bit like pleading the morality and image clauses in entertainment contracts

... that's his house gone then :-(
Mushroom if J.Mc is an ar$ehole as you believe then there are certainly still a couple on Channel 4 racing to be got rid of.Personally, as part of a racing programme I'd rather listen to him than those smary gits they have got on there now.Simon Holt, Mick Fitzgerald and Clare Balding are fine, its the others.
Can't stand the man. There must be older people on Channel 4? That alone would prove him wrong. He's just odious.
When Channel 4 racing started they had the toffs, Lord Oaksey and Brough Scott, doing the commentry while McCrirrick clowned about down among the poorer punters. He must have had a fairly short contract and couldn't have expected it to go on for ever.
he was got rid of because they dont think hes the right person to attract a younger audience to horse racing...or to get into gambling on horses..depends on your viewpoint

he felll at the last hurdle...... wonder what odds he gave himself on that one !?
