To re-appear as a waiter with a mascara moustache at the table of your dearest friend in the middle of a restaurant, who has been mourning your death for two years, and later to pretend you were both about to die in an underground explosion, tell him you couldn't disarm the device, and wait for the last seconds to do so, has nothing to do with the former Sherlock, who was eccentric, but not cruel. All this, plus manic editing, (hardly any take being on screen for more than 3 seconds), very annoying, and I won't bother watching the next episodes, another BBC balls-up!

I couldn't make head nor tail of the previous programmes so thought I would give it a go again. Just can't understand what all the fuss is about - couldn't understand this one either. I agree with Khandro. I could perhaps accept it if the writers hadn't used the name Sherlock and started a completely fresh series, but last night's programme was strange, to say the least.

If only the BBC could be persuaded to initiate a "Unsuitable for morons" warning, we; - the intellectually challenged, could be aware that it would be useless for us to even attempt to understand such profundity, and remain watching something within our grasp, such as, 'Outrageous Vacation Videos'.

It's not all that dissimilar in some ways, though, from how Sherlock Holmes revealed himself to Watson in the original books. Wears a disguise, then just removes it with no forewarning. What's changed the most is the way Watson reacts, really.
I do think they've made Sherlock crueler than in the books but that's been an issue all the way through the series, really. I figure it's worth overlooking. If one wants a dramatisation of the original Holmes then that's been done already, no? Why not do something different with it?
