For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.i think it should be for all, however i wish they wouldn't, unless the book has, include any romantic tosh, because for the most part it wouldn't have happened, and in many ways, though some parts are handled well, if you want a good book on the WW1 from a standpoint of a Volunteer read Vera Brittain's book Testament of Youth. The tv series was around the 80's i think, but was also quite faithful to her biography - she was a remarkable woman in extraordinary times, and circumstance
it worries me too, because for the most part this was extremely hard work, never ending grind that the VAD;s and nurses did, and much of what they did largely went unrewarded in terms of medals, and standing in the communities when they came home. Vera Brittain was similar to the girls, she was very middle class, and rather sheltered, but after losing her fiance, brother and most of his friends, the officer class to the war, she joined the VAD's, her book is one of my treasured possessions.
