Obviously Nicole Sherzinger was there because Lewis in a Hebridean island and Hamilton is just along the road from Glesca.

During the ballet bit I was expecting it to suddenly change to the appearance of the Proclaimers and was very much looking forward to singng along as they belted out 500 Miles. That's the only song I can sing with a scottish accent I don't have! love that song.

It all obvioulsy cost a fortune but looked and sounded VERY low budget. What a waste of money. I'm a Scot and that was an embarrassment of an opening ceremony. Only heuchtie teutchy thing missing was a giant tin of shortbread.Unless of course it was there and I missed it in the middle of all that clutter. I'll be glad when the Games are over. I can't really see them as " The Friendly Games"

Parts of it were as embarrassing as the London Olympics opening ceremony when they had hundreds of hospital beds and nurses on show.

It looked low budget because in relative terms it was low budget... London games around £100M for the opening alone, last night less than £20M, it was twee, a bit daft and very typical, we never take things too seriously, it was very Scottish ..... only got serious when Kim Jock Eck got up to speak
