I don't have a problem with the pretty dresses. The spray tan is worrying on a child so young, with all those chemicals.

I think entering those competitions is more for the mothers than the girls.

two of the mums were interviewed on This Morning today. They could hardly be described as the sharpest tools in the box, and could see nothing wrong. They loved their kids but justified it that the kids didnt cry, therefore they were happy about it. What happened to the bigger picture?
sadly its all part of the Jordan culture.

Having watched the programme I think the organisers and judges need to take some time out to consider the monster they are creating.

I didn't see it, but agree with fusion. It sounds as though it's more for the mothers than the children.

I don't doubt that the Mothers love their children, just that they have a misguided sense of how small girls should be dressed and behave (IMO).

Frilly dresses - yes
Sparkles and ribbons - yes
Spray tans - no
Full make up and hair styling - no
"Sexy" outfits and poses - no

Kids grow up quick enough, no need to be rushing the process.

Appalling insight into what seems to be developing into a "circus". Those poor children, no thought for what they are putting them through or what they will eventually turn out like as they get older. These mothers don't deserve children they think of as dolls FGS, they are not playthings they are human beings. IMO this is another form of child cruelty and the mothers should (if they were not morons) hang their head in shame! They "don't see what's wrong with it"? Well of course they wouldn't, no sense, no feeling. What about the grandparents, nothing from them in this programme, I would love to have heard their stance although if they bred daughters like they have, perhaps they too would love it! What this world has come to is beyond comprehension, mind you all fuelled by the idiocy of celebrity exposure with the way they act and is plastered all over the media. I despair of the future for the decent people who will seemingly struggle in amongst this crowd of...erm....excreta .... what a prospect to have to face!

I actually feel sorry for these young women who feel the only way they can express themselves is through making their children look ridiculous and at times unhappy, very sad :(

Don't waste your sympathy on these deluded girls, pity the poor children born to them that will suffer for the rest of their lives, poor sods!

anne, I feel sorry for the mothers too (and the children, of course).

I think there must be something lacking in the mother's lives or past for them to treat their children like dress-up dolls. Teaching your daughter that physical appearance is the be-all and end-all just isn't healthy for either party.

totally agree 2sp. I may be wrong but , I got the impression the mums appeared to be lone parents, ( nothing wrong with that ), could they be lonely ?

Well I watched it the other night and I didn't mind it as long as the kids were okay about it.

There is so much neglect with children today that I thought well - at least they are pampering them.

I have just (very bad) watched youtube and accidentally clicked onto babies of 6 weeks old and upwards - with black eyes, burns on their hands, stitches on their faces, broken bones etc etc and murdered.

So no, kids were well cared for.

I agree, jennyjoan, there are some horrific cases of child abuse out there. I'm not for a minute saying that the girls involved with pageants are being abused, just that it's maybe not the healthiest way to bring up children.

Maybe 2sp - but am still stoic - far far better for kiddies to be so well looked after than not.

And knowing children of today when they reach a certain age - they say no Mum, not anymore.

conn. I agree. I don't think these mum's are bad in any way. but they did remind me of young girls dressing up dolls. but in ( sometimes ) sexual clothing ?

Hi Anne - let's not forget Gypsy Weddings - the children at the weddings are posing in very sexy ways and half naked - yet they are virgins on their wedding day so it didn't do them any harm.

I worry about the early sexualisation of our kids. These toddlers are pouting and prancing about in clothes really suitable for adults. They are learning that they are nothing more than a pretty face, or perfect hair and tans.

I agree, these girls are not being beaten, abused, starved or neglected. But surely there is more to bringing up well rounded children than avoiding any of that? I've already stated that I have no doubt that these girls are loved by their mothers. I just wonder what risks they are being exposed to by treating them, and expecting them to behave, like adults?

Then 2sp you must ensure you don't frill your kids up or early sexualise them and also keep them well away from pageants. The situation lies on the individual parents.

Somebody mentioned that the parents were like Jordan - now I know she can't get a man to stay with her but I think she is excellent towards her children and her children are lovely, amusing and pretty well-mannered by today's standards.
