I think the sad and uncomfortable truth is that the mothers are not very old themselves and mistake their children for dolls.

My oldest is 4 and does like a dress, but she usually wears it with her wellies and can be found digging in the sandpit. She also likes getting her nails painted (with water based, peel-off kids varnish), as I usually have my toenails painted.

I think that's probably far enough for me (and her).

I just wonder how these mothers will react when the girls get older and don't want to dress up or take part in these pagents.

There is a difference between a little girl having a *dressing up* dress and having a wardrobe of them. This just sexualizes little children, ie the hooters outfit. The 4yr old has had a spray tan for gawds sake

It's very sad - that little girl wouldn't take part because she was scared, her outfit cost thousands. I don't get it at all.

Hooters is a chain of bar/restaraunts that started in the USA where the waitresses are very pretty and wear very little shorts and vests.
