E Mails On Windows 8

Since Monday I have been unable to pull through or send e mails from my Microsoft Windows 8 account although I can do both through Virgin Media webmail. Other people also seem to have this problem as they have reported it to Microsoft who have told them to delete their e mail account and set it up again but apparently this does not work. Has anyone any ideas or news on this. I have several e mails in the Windows 8 e mails systems that I need to reply to but the system won't let me do anything. Many thanks for any assistance
