Anyone remember watching this? I'm watching 'Cash Cab' & one of the questions was ... "Which psychedelic children's series in the 70s made veiled references to drugs?" Apparently this series did. I have the entire series on DVD and there is no reference to drugs. The title could be seen to mean "puffing stuff". As so often with vaguely remembered series, a lot is read into it that simply isn't there.
I think the character of Pufnstuf was inspired by the 1960s song 'Puff the Magic Dragon' which is where the drug reference connection may have come from.

Still think it is harmless when compared to lots of the shows on offer these days.

Oh it was 1ozzy. Very strange to hear Jack Wilds accent against the American accents. I wonder how much he made from that? I think he suffered bad health as he got older.

There was all that hoo hah about Captain Pugwash too several years ago. I never watched the programme but I'm told (rightly or wrongly) the characters were Seaman Staines, Master Bates, Roger the Cabin Boy and Pugwash is a euphemism for , well I dare not say on a family site. As I say, I never saw the show so don't know whether any of this is true or just a story.

John Ryan, the creator of Captain Pugwash, successfully sued a newspaper for the list of supposed names of Pugwash's pirates. For the record, the pirates names have always been Pirate Barnabas, Pirate William (sometimes called Willy - which is the nearest you get to innuendo) and Master Mate (which I imagine got miss-heard on many an occasion). Tom is, and always has been, the Cabin Boy.
