Munich Airport(s)
I want to fly to Munich for the Christmas market this year. If I fly with Easyjet will that take me to Munich Airport which is about 17 miles from city and has all the rail network. Or will it take me to a Munich airport out in the sticks which is nowhere near Munich, much like London Gatwick, Stansted and Luton are not London by any stretch of the imagination.
Many thanks

I live in Munich.
Munich airport has two Terminals. After arriving look for the green 'S-Bahn' signs. This is a green circle with a white S in it. You can either buy a ticket at the information desk or on the platform. To get to the centre you need a 'Gesamtnetz' which covers all the zones for the entire day until 6am the following day. This will cost 9 (make sure you 'cancel/stamp' the ticket before riding or face a 40 fine). You can cancel the ticket in one of the small blue box machines (normally on the platforms but at the airport they're at the top of the escalators). Once in Munich you can buy daily Single Tages Karte (day tickets) just for the Innerraum (innerring) which should cover the places you need to travel to. Price is 4.50 per day but if staying longer you can get 3 day or 7 day (plus 14, montly tickets). All tickets allow ou to use the S-Bahn, U-Bahn (underground), Trams and buses for the zone you've bought for.
The S-Bahn S1 and S8 go to the centre. S8 is usually the faster train but I think they're having works on that line at the moment (normally the train would take 40 minutes-ish to Marienplatz).
The Christkindlmarkt stretches from Marienplatz to Stachus (Karlsplatz). It gets rather busy but still rather nice.
Ticket Information. If you need anymore information regarding Munich or tickets etc., then reply here. Incidently, which part of Munich are you staying?
Thank you Kebab meister, its good to know things about public transport in other countries, Im gonna print your answer and keep it.
Have not booked hotel yet (tomorrow hopefully) but hope to stay within 15 min walk of Marienplatz. Any advice or places, hotels to avoid etc would be helpful.
Once again thank you.
In all honesty anywhere in Munich is good to stay. I've been told there are a few dodgy Turkish areas but I've not come across them. Since moving here I've found Munich to be clean, incredibly safe, and cheap compared to the UK.
Have a look at the S & U-Bahn map of Munich. Anywhere in the centre (within the old walls) are good areas and area easily walkable although there are S-Bahns, U-Bahns, trams and buses connecting all the different locations. Swabing is a very popular area to go out as is Neuhausen. The areas around Hauptbahnhof are a little seedy but still safe. Sendlinger Tor is the gay area (Freddie Mercury lived here) but again is friendly and safe.
Have a look at www.toytownmunich.com which should provide many answers or links and if you require further information then they have a forum too. My user name there is Kebab Meister so feel free to message me if you need more help. The site might help with a few customs and differences to back home. A couple of these are that most shops are shut on Sunday's though bars and restaurants remain open. Also wait for the green man on pedestrian crossings, Police have been known to fine jaywalkers.
Happy reading at Toytown!
