Did anyone watch this on Saturday night? I thought it was embarrassingly rubbish. Was it fake or real? I'm not sure.

I don't know whether they were genuinely hypnotized, but I enjoyed it.

I didn't see it but I have seen live performances of stage hypnosis. Looking a the volunteers I'm fairly sure some at least were not "plants" but genuine. No reason they wouldn't be, to be honest. The shows tend to trivialise the practise, but are presumably fun for the extroverts who volunteer themselves as subjects.

I haven't seen this but if it's anything like the usual stage hypnosis shows I simply do not believe the participants are not just playing along. Hypnotists are always telling us we can't be made to do things we don't want to do and that we cannot be hypnotised against our will. Well are these people actuing like idiots because they want to then? Nope load of old pony if you ask me.

I didn't watch it, and I won't watch it because the concept makes me feel really uncomfortable.

Making people unaware of their actions for the entertainment of others is not something I can watch.

it was really funny..as one who has been stage hypnotised I can confirm that you are very much aware of what you are doing annd if you were ever asked to do something you did not want to then you wouldn't....I would not dance as a ballet dancer as I did so as a child and hated it then...

I understand what you are saying - but to does rather play on the desire of some people to get on TV.

Do you remember 'The Word'? They used to have a section called 'I'll do Anything to get on TV' - and they did - some of the things were just horrible!

OK, it's a lesser version, but the principle is the same.

Just because people are willing to humiliate themselves doesn't mean it's automatically a good idea to facilitate that willingness in the name of entertainment.

Ten years ago, we looked on in horror at the Japanese game show Endurance, introduced to us by Clive James - now we have 'I'm A Celebrity' offering exactly the same scenarios, and no-ne bats an eyelid.

Availability and desirability are not always the same thing.

My opinion remains though - I am uncomfortable with humiliation for titillation - agreed in advance or not.

street magicians use a technique called "instant stooge" - this appears to be a variation on that.
