Proms

Just finished watching last night at the proms as I have for the last few years. Still a tear in the eye and a bit of national pride when Rule Britania was sung especially when it involved cities of the British isles who were all well represented and put on "a good show" In Donegal Square , Belfast a choir , soon joined by the crowd sang a good rendition of O Danny Boy.
Next was the news. Petrol bombs thrown at police in Belfast. Down to earth with a bang.
What is happening. Can any one explain this aggresion.. Why is it necessary?
Sorry to go on but after such a wonderful feeling of comradship from the proms, back to the real world is a bit of a shock.
Shouldnt be posted under films & tv but I couldnt find anywhere else. Got it off my chest. May sleep tonight. Sorry.

I think it's disgusting to be singing land of hope and glory in the present climate of multiculturalism, do you not realise this song could offend asylum seekers and (dare I say the word) muslims. I'm sure somebody could think of a more suitable anthem, where we praise that allah dude, and all those martyrs that have gone to meet their virgins.

Dilligaf,Belfast,like any city,has various areas.Some of these are more hard core than others.Don't let what happened in one small area,detract from what was obviously a great night in the city centre,and was enjoyed by hundreds of like minded people,or more,from across the city.The media will always report the bad news,but it shouldn't detract from the normality that exists elsewhere!

In what way would it be "offensive"?  It is an anthem to hope and freedom, and thus as a land of refuge for the oppressed.  It does not in any way negate or attack multiculturalism.
