What do I need to do with an Iris that has not had any flowers on it this year?
...and....
How do I know when my winter flowering pansies have had enough? They are still flowering profusely but surely they will give up soon. I keep deadheading them and they keep flowering. Will they last all summer?
Sorry for the delay Tilly, had to go out. I'd wait to the Autumn, then carefully lift out the rhizomes with a fork, sort out the best rhizomes with plenty of roots and separate from the clump using a sharp knife. cut the leaves back by about 50% then plant them shallowly, leaving the tops of the rhizomes exposed, space the at about 10ins to a foot apart and firm in...
Hi Tilly,
Iris's are suposed to flower in May, so there is still a little time yet (hopefully).
They like their rizomes exposed to the sun, so that may help.
As for the Pansies, just keep on deadheading, they'l know when to stop ;-)
Thanks Chip. My other Irises have flowered and finished now. This one seems to be 'overcrowded'. Do I dig it up and chop it in bits or can I just cut it in half with a spade, in situ?

You may need to repete this every 3 years or so.
