Knew he was of 'an age' not heard or seen him in any capacity for...well, ever, and just wrongly assumed.

Think he stopped performing in about 2006.

Ah, brings back memories of his shows and Val singing away in his rocking chair, wearing an array of fetching jumpers. Lovely chap.

The last time the family tried to take my mother on an outing was in November 2008....to see Val Doonican......one of her favourites.

A complete disaster, sadly. The dementia meant that it was too much for her and she collapsed, screaming before we'd made it to the theatre.....we spent the night in A&E...
