Film title please

Old age fades my memory, but I think the plot of the film was a man's wife is murdered and eventually it turns out to be him. He is found out because of blood on a hammer, and either the hammer was found in the garage under the house (so probably an American film) or he committed the murder in the garage under the house, I'm sure some action took place in the garage. Anyone else recall the film.....especially the title.

A 1989 film starring Harrison Ford has a theme and scene very close to what you describe.  The exception is that he is suspected of killing the woman with whom he's having an affair.  In the end, he is vindicated, but in the final scene, he finds a blood stained hammer in the basement which clearly indicates his long suffering wife was actually the killer.  The name of the film in Presumed Innocent...

That sounds like the one......I did mention fading memory, so I've probably twisted the plot. I have tried a few times to trace the name of this film and failed so thanks.

Sorry, Clanad I've checked this out and I don't think it is the film I'm thinking of. I think the film I'm trying to remember is much older than 1998. So if you or anyone has any other ideas I would be grateful.
