...I'm with Virgin for Broadband and TV. Can't remember what my TV package is called, but I believe "large" is in there somewhere, although I don't get the good stuff like Sky Atlantic, Premiere, Showcase, Movie Mix, or Movies4Men (is it even legal to call it that?)
I am about to phone Virgin to enquire how much extra I will need to pay to get these channels....anyone got any advice on what I should say to them? ;) Thanks,

Virgin don't offer Sky Atlantic as Sky won't let them have it
Question Author
Thanks Fitzer, not really bothered about that one, but the rest? Will I have to contact Sky?

Nope, if Virgin offer them (I don't know) it would be them you'd need to talk to, they do list what channels each package offers http://store.virginmedia.com/discover/tv/watch/intro.html
I get Movies4Men on my XL tv package

Virgin provide these channels

No harm phoning Virgin and thumping out a new deal - threaten to go to Sky
If you are 'out of contract' then talking about possibly cancelling the whole shooting match and 'going to Sky' should produce a decent offer of more channels and/or lower prices.

I'm on the Virgin Media basic package and I'm thinking of getting rid of it, as I only watch 3 or 4 channels . I find the biggest benefit is having I player on the TV.
melv, you don't need Virgin to watch iPlayer on your tv - there are much cheaper ways
Sky Atlantic is available on Now TV. Now TV is owned by Sky. You don’t need a subscription to get access to Now TV, but you will need at least a 2.5Mb broadband connection.

No contract but £9.99 per month. If there is a series you want to watch on Atlantic just subscribe for the duration.
I don't understand all this stuff. Technology has moved on too quickly for me. I have iplayer on my TV but I don't know if that's inbuilt into the TV or it's coming from that little thing plugged into the side :-)
If you've got a smart tv it's coming from your tv, if you haven't it's coming from the little box plugged in at the side
Thankyou, hc. I'll look into getting rid of Virgin media. BTW, I'm a bit of a Luddite with computers etc

I'm with ummm on this...I've decided to call a halt to any more stuff. That's why I haven't got a smartphone, and I've got a 7" NetBook gathering dust cos no 8yr old kids ever visit here to teach me how to use it :(

hc...we have an LG Smart TV. I've just looked at the little box and it's an LG Dongle.
I bet you're still wearing that Victorian Bodice too .... :)
That's Baths, not you ummmm - or then again :)
There are three dedicated film channels available on Freeview....Film4 (Freeview 15), Movie Mix (32) and Movies4Men (48)....all free, of course.

Lol @Dave, steady now....I was chastised only yesterday for saying that gropes and fumbles were what myself and contemporaries accepted without question in the late 60s/early 70s....only to be told it was because I wasn't "college educated", pmsl :)

Well I phoned Virgin, and got so sick pressing 1,2,3 or 4, I hung on till a real person answered. Apparently there's a few packages available for me, but when we narrowed it down to no Sports, not bothered about HD, just mainly movies, I was quoted £26. Told then right off that wasn't gonna happen, so she went away to see what she would be allowed to offer me *sigh*...was getting fed up with pantomime by now, so when she finally came back it was £16. Said I didn't think that was acceptable, butnthen she told me my Broadband speed would be raised to 100 meg, and I was now on 50.
Losing interest by now, so I agreed to that :)
