Alfie's Ashes
17 Answers
We collected Alfie's ashes on Wednesday night and now they're on the little chest in the sitting room with a bunch of flowers and a sympathy card from the Vets. The very thoughtfully included a pack of Forget-me-not seeds with a picture on the front of the pack of a dog lying among the flowers Nursling a cat... the dog is the spitting image of Alfie.
Not a day has gone by since he died when I haven't cried my eyes out.
I just don't know what to do with his ashes. I don't want to just put them in a draw or a cupboard, out of sight, out of mind. However it seems a bit ghoulish to put them on a mantlepiece or give them pride of place on the dining room cabinet. I certainly don't feel inclined to interview them in the garden as we won't be stopping in this house forever.
Any suggestions? Should I hold on to the seeds too?
I'll check back later for replies. Thanks.

Now she is on the mantelpiece, with a favourite photo. I find it very comforting and do occasionally talk to her.
When I go she will be in with me.

In the States, they have pet memory walls for spreading ashes and leaving a plaque behind.....if there isn't anything like this near you, why not a favourite tree and attach a brass plaque. The flowers you should go. As to moving, do not worry, this was his home and where he should rest.....it's the memories that are the most important thing.
As wolf 63 said have his ashes made into a ring so that he is always with you.
On my facebook page several people have had this done, I can get you a name of the company used if you wish.
When our beloved cats died I had cat statues made by a local pottery and their ashes are inside the statues. The statues have moved with me 3 times now and have pride of place on our verandah as we speak.

I think the best way is to scatter the ashes in his favorite part of the garden or a place where you frequently went for his walks.
I like to think of it as returning him to the earth, from where he came. I think this will give you a sense of release and allow you to move on.
Best wishes - I lost my dear old friend two weeks before Christmas.

Personally, I don't think it's ghoulish to have the ashes on display NoM and I have my beloved Bruno's on display on a little table by the window with his photo and a couple of other relevant things and there they will stay forever. I also light a candle every night for him by the lovely wooden box that the ashes are in.
