that your parents told you under no circumstances to do?

On Saturday I needed my insulin so nipped to the bathroom at McDonalds before catching my train home. The lock on the door was a bit dodgy, and I thought what will I do if I can't get out?

It took me back to when I was 5 at the Washington Services on the motorway. I wanted to be a big girl and use the loo on my own to which my mum agreed but I was NOT to lock the door...what did I do? I locked the door and couldn't unlock it, cue my mum trying to convince me to crawl under the door which I eventually did and was surrounded by at least half a dozen other women and my mum giving me a cuddle while I imagine trying to not be mad for doing what she told me not to do.

Washington Services? God, that takes me back to 1972. Fresh up at Durham University my mate, who had a clapped-out old Mini, and I had been out on the hoy. At chucking-out time we decided we were both hungry. Everywhere was closed so he suggested we drive up to Washington Services, which we duly did. My mum told me not to go to Glastonbury festival. I told her my friend's dad was going as well and we'd be perfect ok.

Of course, my friend's dad didn't come with us. We came home early smelly and exhausted after wrecking our tent.
Everything.

Naughty Mamya - I did that too for a spell but I think mum soon realised as the hiding spot moved!

Oh Islay...were the horses ok though?

At chucking-out time we decided we were both hungry. Everywhere was closed so he suggested we drive up to Washington Services, which we duly did. We had sausage, chips and peas which were vile and very over-priced. As he had no cigarettes left he went to the vending machine. He put his last 50p in but it was the wrong machine and he came back with a packet of multi-coloured condoms.

They now have a Greggs and I think it was a Costa...last thing I bought there was Ibuprofen and that too wasn't cheap! Oh they have a Burger King -eurgh.
Lovely stories.
Jackdaw, which college in Durham were you studying in?
Telling children to not do something is almost a guarantee that they will! With me it was riding my soapbox cart down a steep hill, It was a quiet side road leading to an army barracks, it was great fun, we were clocked at 35 MPH by an army driver. Great fun!
Clover, Hatfield.
Gosh...loads of stuff.

The funniest was 'don't stand up in the boat' I did, we capsised :-)
Sex and drugs and rock and roll.
Just like Ian Dury. ;-)
Jackdaw, I love Hatfield. I went on an OU summer school there. Those worn away steps in the halls of residence....I loved everything about it there. Beautiful city.

[sorry, QoM, I don't want to derail your thread]

No problem cloverjo, I don't mind at all :)
Wouldn't know. Have always had a poor memory. Who the heck knows, 5 minutes later, what anyone told me not to do ?
"Do not and I mean DO NOT take your bike out until your father has had a chance to replace the brake blocks" still got a scar under my chin 50 years later where I shot across the junction and smacked into a brick wall, good job roads were a lot quieter then.
My mother told me never to look at the saucy postcards at the seaside - but I did . . .
